Nisa is helping its independent retailers tackle the nationwide issue of food waste by rolling out a range of wonky fruit and vegetables into stores thanks to the “Marvellous Mis-shapes” event. The promotion runs from Wednesday 18th September until Tuesday 8th October and feature a range of misshaped autumnal root vegetables and fresh produce from the Co-op own brand range.

Research shows that sales of misshapen produce tripled in the UK from 2017 to 2018, which means an increasing market of consumers are actively looking for these products whilst they are out shopping.

Nisa retailers are providing shoppers with great deals on these and other staple ingredients for healthy, hearty meals including; Co-op Marvellous Mis-shapes Potatoes (90p), Co-op Marvellous Mis-shapes Carrots and Parsnips (59p each), Co-op Marvellous Mis-shapes Brown Onions (49p), a selection of Lurpak butters (£3.00 each) and Jackson’s bread rolls (£1.06 each).

Nisa’s Wholesale Category Controller for fresh produce, Josie Bates, said: “The Co-op has seen great success from the Marvellous Mis-shapes line and we’re proud to get on board with the topical initiative, which gives independent retailers the ability to make an impact in the war of food waste.”

“Many supermarkets offer some form of “wonky veg” and we are confident that offering shoppers these products at their local convenience store at a competitive price will result in increased sales for our partners.”
