Once again in this issue we bring you a roundup of news from the wholesale industry and its suppliers. Great products start with great ingredients and we hear from McCain Foods’ customer Bidvest Foodservice, who have been out on the farm at harvest time to see how McCain works with our farmers to produce the best British potatoes for its chips. Put Tuesday 8 November in your diary for another Bidvest Foodservice initiative, their “plate2planet Live” summit conference discussing sustainability issues in foodservice.

Winner, winner, school dinner! Drinks and waters specialist Radnor Hills have been named LACA Outstanding Supplier of the year 2016 for their dedication to supplying school-compliant drinks to UK schools. From teaching to training, we also hear about the Scottish Wholesale Association’s mentoring programme and the Country Range Student Chef Challenge 2016/17, run in collaboration with the Craft Guild of Chefs.

Speaking of chefs, at the end of August Jamie Oliver and Alex James, Blur bassist turned cheese maker, teamed up for The Big Feastival, their unique weekend celebration of music on Alex’s Gloucestershire farm. Twenty years after the Blur/Oasis Britpop chart battle Alex James is back in the news this autumn, partnering with Jacob’s Crackers as their new Chief Taste Curator, helping Brits re-think lunch and discover new ways to enjoy crackers.

You can’t let the gloomy autumn weather get you down for long. At the end of October it will be Diwali, the festival of lights and in December it’s Christmas. Get into the mood with our Christmas feature, including a taste of this year’s Christmas products from biscuits to air fresheners, and the Ferrero guide to making the most of the festive season along with full details of how Ferrero Rocher and its Raffaelo, Kinder and Thorntons brands are going to be unmissable this Christmas period.

Finally, in our Quote Unquote section we hear from Adrian Fleming, Regional Director of LPR UK and Ireland, the pallet pooling specialists. If Adrian was an item in a wholesale warehouse, he says he’d be Baked Beans, as they do exactly what they say on the tin! If you’d like to feature in Quote Unquote, get in touch and you could be next in the spotlight.
