The family-run business is working towards a more sustainable future

Simtom Food Products is a family-run business that has an impressive product portfolio of ready to use sauces, pastes, traditional chutneys, ingredients, and accompaniments. It has just announced it is removing all black plastic from its Chef’s Speciality range from next month.

All products that are produced after 1st January 2021, will no longer use black plastic lids, and the outer packaging will move from white boxes to unbleached cardboard boxes. These actions form part of the company’s CSR initiative where it continues to work towards an environmentally and socially responsible future for their employees and customers.

Bhavin Chandarana, Managing Director of Simtom Food Products said, “The team have been working hard to minimise our impact on the environment and, as well as focusing on the packaging, we are also working on reformulating products to see where we can make changes to dietary requirements and allergens. We have been working to reduce fats in our products and are hoping to launch a range of low fat RTU sauces early next year. We also look to reduce salt and ‘nasties’ where possible, and all products in the RTU sauce range are school compliant, meet 2017 salt targets and have no artificial colours or flavours.”

Simtom are always looking for new and creative ways to evolve and adapt the range. To support their customers that are offering home deliveries, click and collect or have retail and cash & carry outlets, it has just launched a selection of Chef’s Speciality RTU sauces in 500g jars.

The team at Simtom pride themselves on delivering authentic, consistent, high-quality products that are cost effective. Bhavin continued, “We spend a lot of time and resource developing and improving the products and we make sure we have regular taste testing and benchmarking to maintain high standards and consistent flavours.”

Earlier this year, Simtom announced their partnership with Zest Food Partners to help grow their range of products within the foodservice market. Kelly Burke, Commercial Director at Zest Food Partners, added: “We know that wholesalers are taking huge steps to make their businesses more sustainable, and removing black plastic is a key part of this process. Simtom want to support customers and work in partnership to identify the opportunities for change and help them meet their challenging targets.”
