Following last week’s announcement of the proposed merger between Landmark Wholesale and Today’s Group, members from both groups and suppliers have been quick to support the move.

Marcus Singh, Managing Director, Hyperama Wholesale said: “Our business is competing with the might of Tesco and others and while we are incredibly proud of our £145 million turnover we recognise that this is small compared to the multiples. With a new ‘supergroup’ we speak with £9bn behind us and a dedicated team keen to put it to good use in partnership with suppliers.”

Manish Dhamecha, Dhamecha Group, agrees and is keen to point out the opportunities for suppliers: “The proposal to merge the two organisations has been welcomed by the Today’s Group Board and by coming together we make ourselves more efficient as an independent wholesale channel. This will make it much easier for our partners to access.”

Chris Hughes, Managing Director of Regal Wholesale, commented: “Unitas Wholesale is an exciting opportunity and we are motivated by the principle of openness and a group representing large and small organisations across all trade channels, including specialist businesses such as our own.”

“By merging the two largest food and drink wholesale groups, we can offer our members and their customer a stronger future and provide suppliers with an alternative and sustainable route to market,” said John Mills and Darren Goldney. “We are delighted with the initial member feedback and sense a real enthusiasm for the future.”

And it’s not just members who are supporting the move. Suppliers are also recognising the opportunity posed by the proposed merger.

“It’s important that businesses continually review their trading strategies in order to meet the challenges presented by a continually changing retail landscape,” said Andy Topham, Commercial Controller – Off Trade Wholesale, AB-In Bev UK Ltd. “The proposed merger of Landmark Wholesale and Today’s Group represents an opportunity to synergise the strengths of each group and provide a simplified, consistent and efficient platform for suppliers, wholesalers and retailers. We are excited at the prospect of exploring the joint trading opportunities created by Unitas Wholesale.”
