bent-pultz-larsenLantmännen Unibake has increased its share in British company Bakehouse from 25% to 63.25 % and is now the majority shareholder. With the purchase, Lantmännen Unibake strengthens its position in the UK, which is now the company’s largest market.

Lantmännen Unibake, one of Europe’s leading suppliers of frozen bread products, today announced that it has increased its share in the UK’s leading supplier of sweet and savoury pastries and speciality breads from 25% to 63.25% for an undisclosed amount. The purchase continues Lantmännen Unibake’s massive investments in the British market with the second major investment in the UK within the past 12 months.

In May 2008, Lantmännen Unibake acquired British bakery Eurobuns, which gave Lantmännen Unibake production capability in the UK for the first time, and opened the door to the frozen bread market in the UK. Now, the agreement with Bakehouse secures Lantmännen Unibake world class competencies in both the UK retail and food service markets.

CEO of Lantmännen Unibake, Bent Pultz Larsen, sees the agreement with Bakehouse as a natural extension of the Eurobuns acquisition:

“The agreement with Bakehouse further consolidates Lantmännen Unibake’s position in the important UK market and with a closer partnership between our two companies we will become even stronger. Bakehouse is an absolute world class expert in in-store bakeries and tailored solutions for the retail and food service business. We are a perfect match and now Lantmännen Unibake has everything required to provide our customers with the best service in the market meaning the world’s largest assortment combined with sales and marketing concepts”, comments Bent Pultz Larsen, CEO of Lantmännen Unibake.

Bakehouse will continue to operate independently as a one stop shop for continental bakery products and speciality breads. The current Bakehouse management team will continue to lead and run the company, whilst benefiting from the great experience of the Lantmännen Unibake group. Bakehouse Managing Director, Tony Brown comments:

“We look forward to working more closely with Lantmännen Unibake as it enables us to grow the Bakehouse business in accordance with our ambitious plans, whilst still retaining our core position as a single point of contact for a wide range of premium Continental bakery goods. It will be business as usual for the Bakehouse team, as Lantmännen Unibake has been a shareholder for some time, but we welcome the international perspective that our partnership will bring”.
