Following hard on the heels of contract gains with Confex and Caterforce – data and digital specialist, TWC, has been appointed to Scotland’s largest independent retailing and food and drink distributor, CJ Lang & Son, to partner in the development and launch of a new sales data reporting service that will be available to suppliers in January 2021.

‘Spar Scotland Sales Track’ will not only give CJ Lang & Son’ suppliers access to the company’s wholesale shipment data – but in what is believed to be an industry first, the group is also giving them visibility of the retail sales data from its 108 company-owned Spar branded convenience stores.

Tom Fender for TWC says the new service will give users immediate and easy access to data and relevant insight to leverage mutual advantage and growth:

“Data allows us to understand the ‘push’ metrics and will enable CJ Lang & Son to work more strategically and effectively with suppliers whilst also monitoring the trends driving the consumer ‘pull’.

“This visibility of data also enables effective forecasting and helps users identify emerging trends so they identify the ‘size of the prize’ and make quick decisions based on knowledge and fact – not hearsay.”

“We work on the basis that great digital execution can only be achieved from excellent insight, and CJ Lang & Son’ investment in this service will undoubtedly further underpin its position as a leading Scottish wholesale distributor with ambitions to be at the forefront of digital engagement.”

The two data sets (wholesale shipment data and retail Epos data) will sit side by side on TWC’s leading edge dashboard and will be accessible anytime, anywhere, and on any device.  Fender continues:

“You don’t need to be a rocket scientist or have a PHd in stats to use our reporting tool.

“We’ve designed it for busy execs ‘on the go’ so they can access information at their finger-tips.  It’s intuitive, cloud-based, and will help aid growth and upsell.  The last 6 months have been hugely challenging for all businesses – but UK convenience stores, underpinned by a world class supply chain, have been a vital lifeline to communities.

“The sector has more customers, and more fans, than it did 8 months ago.  But change also creates a need for data, to better understand customers, whether they are retailers, or shoppers – so that businesses can collectively deliver against their needs.  Emerging trends need to be spotted early.  Gaps in performance or listings need to be plugged quickly.

“A one size fits all approach to business is ineffective and inefficient.  We need to work together to cleverly pinpoint opportunities with laser precision, and deliver data-led solutions which improve performance”

“I have known (and worked in), the Scottish Wholesale and Retail sector for over 20 years.  I am delighted we are working with Spar Scotland/CJ Lang & Son”.

With its impressive distribution centre in Dundee housing ambient, chilled, and frozen goods (as well as non-food items, tobacco products, soft drinks, beers, wines, and spirits), CJ Lang & Son provides an essential service to over 300 Spar members – the UK’s No 1 Convenience brand – to which it has sole rights in Scotland.

The group combines product sourcing, warehousing, and distribution with vital support services such as marketing, store refit project management, business guidance, and training.

TWC’s service team will be giving support 24/7 to ensure all users can easily access the information they need.
