Blakemore Foodservice colleagues donated £5,000 to Midlands-based cancer charities Walsall Breast Cancer Support Group and Balls to Cancer in Wolverhampton

Employees nominated Walsall Breast Cancer Support Group and Balls to Cancer in Wolverhampton as their charities of the year for 2017/18.

The team held a number of fundraising activities throughout the year including a 20k bike ride, sponsored walk, a charity BBQ, dress down days and seasonal raffles, to name but a few.

The £5,000 donation has been split equally between the midlands based cancer charities. It will enable Walsall Breast Cancer Support Group’s aim to support local ladies with a diagnosis of breast cancer and Balls to Cancer’s aim to raise male cancer awareness and education.

Blakemore Foodservice Community Champion Sharon Garner said: “The whole team have really got behind our charities of the year, Walsall Breast Cancer Support Group and Balls to Cancer, and we have had an incredible amount of support to achieve the £5,000 total.

“All of our fundraising efforts were match funded by the Blakemore Foundation, the company’s charitable trust.

“We hope that the money will make a huge difference to those dealing with cancer.”

A representative from Walsall Breast Cancer Support Group added: “How can we begin to thank all the wonderful people at Blakemore’s for thinking of us with this most generous donation. Without this support we could not exist as a group and so we are deeply grateful.

“With kind people like yourselves who go the extra mile and fund us, we are not only able to carry on helping women who have just been diagnosed with breast cancer, but also help women for many years after who need our support.”
