Kite Packaging, founded in 2001, is one of the UK’s largest packaging distributors and the only company within the sector built on employee share-ownership. This philosophy of partnership runs throughout the business, encouraging our team to deliver premium customer service at every opportunity. We now have ten locations across the UK which are fully integrated into our national and international supply chain to provide the right product at the right price, on time, every time.

Gavin Ashe, Managing Partner at Kite Packaging, speaks to Wholesale Manager.

What are your best-known products/solutions/services?

Single and double wall boxes. These are available in a vast selection of sizes and their versatility makes them perfect for shipping an endless array of items. Packaging tapes and stretch wrap are other core products, including our 5×5 nano pallet wrap and dispenser. This exclusive product reduces stretch wrap consumption by up to 60% whilst also lowering health and safety risks when compared to other hand-operated systems.

Can you tell us about any areas where you are making technical advances?

We’ve been busy with the launch of our new app which makes the experience of browsing, buying and reordering packaging more convenient and accessible for our credit account customers. The app offers a personalised platform with round-the-clock access to our products and services, featuring a quick barcode scanner and more for increased efficiency.

Are you taking part in any major trade shows? Can you tell us what you’ll be exhibiting there?

We’re attending eight exhibitions this year, including the Food & Drink Expo next at the NEC from 24th – 26th April, where we will be showcasing our food packaging range.

How future proof and flexible are your solutions?

Very as Kite is constantly evolving with the world around us. Whether that means embracing drone technology for efficiency in our warehouse or developing an app to improve our offering for customers, we are continually assessing trends in the market to ensure our offering and practices align with what is current.

What’s the latest news from your company?

We launched and are currently seeking Management Apprenticeship Programme. Participants will have the opportunity to study at Sheffield Hallam University, gaining a BSc (Honours) Packaging design and Technology whilst working and earning a salary, all without paying any fees. We’re offering a basic starting salary of £20,000, increasing in increments of £2,000 every year, going up to £28,000 on completion of the programme. Applications are open and close 31st March 2023.

What sets your company apart from the competition?

Our people. We are invested in each other, our customers and suppliers, and in providing the best service we possibly can to everyone we deal with. As the only employee share-owned packaging supplier in the industry, we have a unique culture that is unattainable by other wholesalers.
