Belgian pastry specialist Pidy has everything chefs and operators need when it comes to serving up the best plant-based pastry delights this Veganuary. Pidy’s vegan range consists of a traditional sweet shortcrust pastry case, as well as the ‘Veggie Cup’ canape selection.

Veganism is one bakery trend that is set to continue to grow and is now considered beyond a trend by many. The Veganuary campaign has now reached its 1 millionth participant since launched 7 years ago, proving it has never been more important to serve quality vegan options on menus to meet the soaring demand.

“It’s really exciting to see the vegan movement continue to gather momentum on a daily basis. We have seen an explosion of interest in plant-based dishes in foodservice and hospitality and we are really proud to be one of the first professional pastry suppliers to launch such an extensive vegan range.

Expanding our range for our vegan customers has been and continues to be, a huge focus for our product development,” said Febien Levet, Commercial Manager at Pidy UK.

Ideal for creating sweet tartlets, the shortcrust pastry case has a delicate fluted design and can be packed with sweet sensations of all kinds. A versatile addition to menus all year-round, the pastry cases is 9.5cm in diameter for the optimum-sized individual tartlet serving.

The pastry is made from a carefully developed plant-based recipe that uses responsibly sourced margarine. It features the same crisp, golden finish and ‘buttery’ flavour of Pidy’s signature classic sweet sablee shortcrust pastry.

When it comes to creating eye-catching vegan appetisers, Pidy’s Veggie Cups range ticks all the right boxes. With scalloped sides and a rustic finish, the range comprises beetroot, carrot, spinach and grilled onion flavours. 4cm in diameter, they are ideal for creating delicate canapés with cold fillings.

The foncage dough contains only natural ingredients, including sunflower oil and vegetable juice to achieve a subtle flavour, vibrant colour and crisp texture. Both products can be filled up to two hours before serving, depending on the moisture content of the filling, and still maintain their crispness.

Fabien Levet, Commercial Manager at Pidy UK, explains further:

Our plant-based range makes means vegans and those on a dairy-free diet can enjoy Pidy pastry. The ready-to-fill nature also means that it is easy and convenient for chefs and caterers to prepare, too!

We have carefully developed plant-based shortcrust and foncage recipes to give our customers even more choice when creating vegan dishes. It features the same renowned family recipe and 100% commitment to quality ingredients, but now in a format that suits a wider range of diets.”

Pidy pastry is developed with the stability and consistency demanded by the professional kitchen but delivers the taste and texture of homemade. The pastry cases can be stored at ambient temperature and have a 12 months shelf life for ultimate convenience.
